• Author of the book; “Brother Anonymous” -by the HOLY SPIRIT-13:22-23
• RECIPIENTS OF THE LETTER
UNKNOWN –NOT CLEAR OF THERE LOCATION

• The purpose of this letter

1.To stop a drift into apostasy
2.To correct their stagnant growth and lack of study
3.The danger of heresy from within
4.The competition of Judaism
5.The legality of Christianity
6. The date of the book –around 65AD

• The occasion of the book –the Jewish Christians were in danger of failing to persevere as Christians –the writer wanted to exhort them to steadfastness by

1.Showing the finality of Christianity
2.Showing the greatness and superiority of Jesus
3.The consequences of leaving Christ

• The value of the letter

1.The danger we face of not focusing on Jesus
2.The only full discussion of Jesus as our High Priest and Apostle
3.The most lengthy and precise illustration of Jesus superiority over everything
4.The book of Hebrews presents the clearest explanation of the place of the Old Covenant as contrasted with the New Covenant

THIS GOD HAS SPOKEN

• Hbr1:1-2 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by [His] Son

GOD

• God (Elohim) = A term describing essence
• God (Elohim) is the plural of EL –“in the beginning, God created the heavens and earth” Genesis 1:1
• God -A DEFINITION “ONE UNLIMITED AS TO HIS ATTRIBUTES
AND LIMITED ONLY BY HIMSELF”
• The name of GOD YHVH
Exodus 3;15 “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM”: and he said, “Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.”
• “It is to be God’s name forever, my memorial unto all generations” see Exodus 3:15-16
• Psa72:17 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and [Men] shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.

YAHWEH JEHOVAH

• DEFINITION; GOD always has always been and always will be.
• NEGATIVE DEFINITION; GOD is without beginning and without end.
• Exd3:14And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AMhath sent me unto you.
• Psa90:2,4”…from everlasting to everlasting, You are God…For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it passes by…”

IMMUTABLE

• DEFINITION: Without change
• Hbr6:17In the same way God, desiring, even more, to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.
• Mal 3:6″ For I, the LORD, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.
• Isa 46:10Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’;
• Hbr13:8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

OMNISCIENT

• DEFINITION: GOD KNOWS ALL THINGS PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE
• Psalms 139: 1-6

Psa139:1O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
Psa139:2You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar.
Psa139:3You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my
ways.
Psa139:4Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, You know it all.

• 1Sa 16:7But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

• DEFINITION: GOD is everywhere and everywhere at the same time, yet is not everything.

• Psa139:8If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.

• DEFINITION: GOD is all powerful He can do anything consistent with His nature.

• Psa139:14I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.
• Psa139:15My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;
• Psa139:16Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.
• Psa139:17How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
