The Names and Titles of Jesus – I Am the Way the Truth and the Life-  Episode 104

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is twelfth in the series.

John 14(NIV)

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4You know the way to the place where I am going.” 5Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you really know me, you will know[b] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” 8Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” 9Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.

John 20

30Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Believe John 20:31 Greek (present continual tense)

  1. Credence – believing that the facts accepting the truth.
  2. Confidence – believing in (trust and obey)
  3. Continuance – go on believing (faith& faithfulness) John 20:31 Greek (present continual tense)

“Do not let your hearts be troubled”

Verse 1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me…–

Verse 11: “Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.”

Yes. I’m leaving. No. You can’t come with me now. Yes, you will be scattered this night when they strike the shepherd, and I will do this work alone. But don’t let your sorrow . . . Don’t let your fear . . . Don’t let your shame . . . produce an unholy turmoil in your soul. Let not your hearts be troubled. Trust me. Trust God. Why? There will be a place for you in my Father’s house, as my Father’s children forever

Matthew 16:13

WHO IS JESUS

13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

Today’s logic says that everybody’s right —-Everyone cannot be right

Who is this man who calls himself Jesus one of three possibility

  1. He is a liar/conman
  2. He is a lunatic
  3. The Son of the living God

Matthew 16:13

WHO IS JESUS

13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

14They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

The scandal of Christianity is not Jesus is a truth or a Savior but the truth and the Savior and anyone who contradicts him is lost and that’s why the world hates him and hates us.

He’s not just a profit is not like others it’s his uniqueness that brings about his exclusiveness and that’s a scandal to the world.

Promises concerning the Messiah

  1. Genesis 49:10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet,[c] until he to whom it belongs[d] shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his
  2. Daniel 9;24 – 27 the city of Jerusalem was to be rebuilt
  3. Malachi 3 and Haggai 2 teach that the Messiah was to come while the second Temple was standing
  4. Isaiah 11 says a shoot will spring up of Jesse David’s father but even the root has been destroyed with the destruction of the Temple in 70 A.D.

Daniel 9;27 says the Messiah would confirm the new covenant and put an end to sacrificial system the sacrificial

Finally Isaiah said the coming of the Messiah would be marked by a ingathering of the nations or Gentiles

Jesus is the Messiah and he was not just a man even the Jewish scribes said that the Messiah would not be just a man they said the son of David would be greater than they and that he would be Lord of David Mark 12:35 -37 and Psalms 110 he would be God that became man that’s exactly what happened

Mark 12:35 -37

35While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David? 36David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:

“‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies

until I put your enemies under your feet.”’[h]

37David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”

Matthew16:21

From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. –

Matthew 5:48

Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Luke 10:25–37

25And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27And he answered, s“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and tyour neighbor as yourself.” 28And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; udo this, and you will live.”

Justification / Sanctification

2 Corinthians 5

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 18Now all these things are from God

NATURE – WILL – ACTIVITIES

John 14:6

Jesus answered “I AM THE WAY and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”

The Names and Titles of Jesus –  I Am the True Vine

The Names and Titles of Jesus -I am the true vineThe Names and Titles of Jesus –  I Am the True Vine Episode 99

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the eighth in the series. The following is an outline.

I Am the True Vine

John 15 (NIV)

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. • 5“ I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing. 6If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

“Under the crown– work was spread out a golden vine, with its branches hanging down from a great height, the largeness and the workmanship of which were an astonishing sight to the spectators” (Antiquities of the Jews, 5.5.4).

31 but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.

ISERAL GOD’S VINE

Genesis 49:22 Jacobs blessing to Joseph

Isaiah 5 A love affair between God and His Vineyard the nation of Israel

Isaiah 5 Something went wrong!

Isaiah 27: 6 He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.

Hosea 10:1 “Israel empties his vine; He brings forth fruit for himself…”

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,  and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

A Shadow

THE TRUE VINE

John 15

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me 5“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. 9As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 12“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus the Good Shepherd

The Names and Titles of Jesus -The Good Shepherd, Spirit Filled PodcastThe Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus the Good Shepherd Episode 98

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the seventh in the series. The following is an outline.

THE NAMES AND TITLES OF JESUS

John 10

I Am the Good Shepherd
I Am the True Shepherd
I Am the Door

Understanding the Shepherd

His job was a dirty and dangerous one. Many times, all the shepherd had to fight off lions and other wild animals was a staff with a crook. He willingly put his life on the line for his flock. At night, he would put the flock in a makeshift pen that had only one way in and out. Day and night Communal pin in town He knew each one of his sheep—inspected them—he gave each one a name—He loved them like we love our pets—His sheep loved their shepherd They knew what he did for them and they knew his voice Abraham – Isaac – Jacob – Moses – David

David the Shepherd

Ps 78:70-72; He also chose David His servant And took him from the sheepfolds; 71From the care of the ewes with suckling lambs. He brought him To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His inheritance. 72So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart And guided them with his skillful hands.

The True Shepherd

God was The Shepherd that all other shepherds of God’s people represented
Ps 80: 1 Oh, give ear, Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who are enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth!
The Messiah would be the True Shepherd

Throughout the Old Testament, you have some promises of a shepherd yet to come

Matthew 2:6, which is a quote from Micah 5 in the Old Testament:  And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you [Bethlehem] shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel (v. 2).  And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall dwell secure, [Who shall dwell secure? The sheep] for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth

I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD

John 10:6 This figure of speech = not a Parable, a Parable is like something ie sower, hidden treasure etc.—Jesus is the door Jesus is The Good Shepherd. It is not just a figure of speech or a comparison, but a saying that is loaded with significance–the verbal equivalent of Jesus’ signs. This picture is not so much an allusion of Ezekiel 34 as a development from it.

Ezekiel 34:23-24 23“Then I will set over them one shepherd, My servant David, and he will feed them; he will feed them himself and be their shepherd. 24And I, the LORD, will be their God, and My servant David will be prince among them; I the LORD have spoken.

Context of John 10:

John chapters 9 and 10 belong  together The Pharisees self-appointed shepherds of God’s flock – were putting people out of the temple who believed in Jesus—plotted to kill Jesus – they tried to kill  him twice ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Woe, shepherds of Israel Ezk 34 Jer 32“Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of My pasture!” declares the LORD. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; All who came before Me are thieves and robbers a hired hand,…He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep.

John 10 10 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. 2But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. 3To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6This figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them. • 7So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10The thief comes enters through Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and [a]have it abundantly.

11“I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. 12He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, 15even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father, and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice, and they will become one flock with one shepherd. 17For this reason the Father loves Me because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. 18No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.”

I lay down My life for the sheep

But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our [i]well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging, we are healed. 6All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way, But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him. Isaiah 53

1 Peter 2:24-25 24and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. 25For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.

John 10 9A division occurred again among the Jews because of these words.20Many of them were saying, “He has a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to Him?” 21Others were saying, “These are not the sayings of one demon-possessed. A demon cannot open the eyes of the blind, can he?” 22At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; 23it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon. 24The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, “How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me.26But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. 27My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30I and the Father are one.”

31The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. 32Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?” 33The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.” 34Jesus answered them, “Has it not been written in your Law, ‘I SAID, YOU ARE GODS’? 35If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? 37If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may [f]know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.” 39Therefore they were seeking again to seize Him, and He eluded their grasp.

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus The Light of the World

The Names and Titles of Jesus - Jesus the Light of the World, Spirit Filled Podcast, Bible StudyThe Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus The Light
of the World – Episode 95

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the fourth in the series. The following is an outline.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it. 6There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light so that through him all might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15(John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. and[b] is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

Jesus THE LOGOS

HE IS THE REASON WHY FOR EVERYTHING

Colossians 1:16
For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him.

Jesus The Word = Logos

Light – Life – Truth

Jesus the Light of the World

1 John 1:5
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

Psalm 36:9
For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

1 Timothy 6:16
He alone is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light. No one has ever seen Him, nor can anyone see Him. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen

Nothing is a coincidence with God – everything he’s created can all be traced back to Jesus the

4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome

Throughout the Old Testament, we have this promise of a great light that comes into the world and would push back the darkness of the world.

Prophecies

Isaiah chapter 9
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone” (v. 2).

In Isaiah 49 God says in relation to Messiah, the Servant of the Lord, He said: “I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth” (v. 6).

Isaiah 60: Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord [Jehovah] will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you (vv. 1–2).

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the Only-begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus the light of the World

John 1:18
No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side [Jesus, the Logos/Word of God], he has made him known.

2 Corinthians 4:6
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” [that God who spoke in Genesis 1] has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God [how?] in the face of Jesus Christ [the Logos, the Word].

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, [d] dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing … His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

Philippians 2
15so that you will [i]prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you [j]appear as [k]lights in the world,

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE LIGHT ARE THE GLORY OF GOD

John chapter 1: 6-13

  • Jesus the light of the world and the glory of God
  • God is zealous for his glory
  • The heavens declare the glory of God
  • The sun is our light by day that warms, lightens and gives us life
  • The moon gives us a testimony of the light of the sun with its reflection
  • That brings me to John’s statement about John the Baptizer not being the light but a reflection of the glory of the true light Jesus Christ

John the Baptist

Matthew 11:11
Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist;…

  • John the Baptist The light and Glory
  • John contrasted to Jesus
  • Jesus was in the beginning with God – John was sent from God
  • Jesus was God – John was a man
  • Jesus was the light – John was a reflection of the light
  • Jesus was the fulfillment of the law and prophets –John terminated the prophets and law

God has called us not just to survive in this world, but to be light that pushes back the darkness

  • Jesus is the Light of the world
  • He’s the “Star come out of Jacob” that we read about in Numbers 24:17
  • He’s the sun of righteousness risen with healing in His wings in Malachi 4:2
  • He’s the One that John saw in Revelation 1:16 whose face was like the sun shining in full strength.
  • He’s the bright morning star we read about in Revelation 22:16.

The Lamb, the Light of the world

One day He will return. There will be one final great sunrise. And then there will be no more sunrises. We read in Revelation 21 about the new Jerusalem. This city “has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb [the Lamb, the Light of the world] and [the] gates [of that city] will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there” (vv. 21–23).

As I studied this lesson on Jesus is light and in that light His life studied light itself the sun for instance gives us son gives us life and it is pure energy of God never does anything by coincidence the word is not even in the Hebrew language and so the sun is shoo-in that gives us life is also unapproachable if we got close to it we would be destroyed and so it is with God Timothy said he lives in unapproachable light no man can approach God and live

Facts about Light

  • The human eye sees specific areas of the spectrum, but other animals and insects can actually see parts of the spectrum that we can’t.
  • Light travels in a vacuum at 300,000 km per second (186,000 miles per second).
  • Space does not have any light. We can see things in space due to light bouncing off of the objects in space.
  • Light is used by plants to convert the light into energy as their ‘food’. The process is called ‘photosynthesis’ and converts carbon dioxide through the energy of the light.

God’s holiness

Ps. 130:3

It all comes back to our understanding of the character of God. If God is holy, and He measures my sin against His holiness, it would be impossible to even balance the scales. David said, “If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?”

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The Incarnation God became flesh: So what!

He was fathered by the Holy Spirit, his mother was a human being, therefore, his value was more than the entire human race.

The Good News of the Incarnation – Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 89

The Good News Of The Incarnation, spirit filled podcastThe Good News Of The Incarnation

John 1:1, In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

John 1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

The Incarnation God became flesh: So what!

Predetermined Counsel of God.

Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world,

1Pe 1:19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

1Pe 1:20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake

Eph 3:11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

NOTHING

The incarnation is good news!

1.Good news because it gives us physical life.

2.Good news because it gives us eternal life.

He was fathered by the Holy Spirit, his mother was a human being therefore his value was more than the entire human race.

The cross only has meaning because of who it was that was on it .

1Cr 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

1Cr 6:10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

1Cr 6:11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

2Cr 11:2 For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin •

Born again with a new identity

2Cr 5:17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Col 3:3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

1Jo 4:17…because as he is, so are we in this world.

Eph 2:6and raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in the heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus

3.Good news because it gives us a perfect High Priest.

Hebrews 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him

Perfect Mediator

Gal 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. One Mediator Gal 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Hbr2:17 For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.

Hbr2:18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Hebrews 4 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

The Incarnation God became flesh: good news!

He Who Promised is Faithful – Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 85

He Who Promised is Faithful, John D Kimbrough, Spirit Filled PodcastThis is the 19th class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas.

The following is the outline of the class.

He Who Promised is Faithful

Hebrews 10

13waiting from that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES BE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET. 14For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. 15And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying, 16“THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART, AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM,” He then says, 17“AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE.” 18Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

Anyone want to go back to Judaism???

  1. A High Priest that is impeccable
  2. A covenant that is better
  3. A better place of service
  4. A better sacrifice in every way than the old covenant
  5. And one that the Holy Spirit says will satisfy every need we have to be right with God

Preservation of the saints

Hebrews chapter 10:19-12:29

19Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

1 Peter 3:21

20to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.[e] It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities, and powers in submission to him.

Hebrews 10

23Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

Hebrews 10

24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, (NIV)

26For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, (KJV)

Hebrews 10

26For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES.

Hebrews 10

28Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

Hebrews 2

2 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?

Hebrews 10

28Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us. 30For we know the one who said, “I will take revenge. I will pay them back.” He also said, “The LORD will judge his own people.” 31It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Only the Blood of Jesus – Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 84

only the blood of Jesus, spirit filled podcast

This is the 18th class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas.

The following is the outline of the class.

Only the Blood of Jesus

The Son’s sacrifice is superior to the O.T. sacrifice

Hebrews chapter 9:12-10:18

Hebrews 10

The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. (NIV)

For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near. (NASB)

In Isaiah 53, we have all the offerings listed in the work of Christ upon the cross:

1) Burnt Offering – Isaiah 53:11; cf. Leviticus 1 Giving self to God

2) Peace Offering – Isaiah 53:5; cf. Leviticus 3 Peace with God

3) Sin Offering – Isaiah 53:6,10-12; cf. Leviticus 4-5 Sinful nature, sins against God

4) Trespass Offering – Isaiah 53:5; cf. Leviticus 5:15-19; Leviticus 6:1-7 Personal sins, sins against your fellow man

5) Meal Offering – Isaiah 53:3,10; cf. Leviticus 2 Thanks to God

Hebrews 10

For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near.  2Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins?  3But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year.  4For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Hebrews 10

5Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, “SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME; 6. IN WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE TAKEN NO PLEASURE. 7.“THEN I SAID, ‘BEHOLD, I HAVE COME (IN THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME) TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.’” 8After saying above, “SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, NOR HAVE YOU TAKEN PLEASURE in them” (which are offered according to the Law),

Hebrews 10

9then He said, “BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL.” He takes away the first in order to establish the second. 1 10By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again, he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,

Christ the Mediator of a New Covenant – Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 82

Christ the Mediator of a New Covenant, Spirit Filled Podcast. Bible Study*We apologize for the sound quality on this recording.*

This is the 16th class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas.

The following is the outline of the class.

Christ the Mediator of a New Covenant

The old covenant was inadequate and faulty, the new covenant is complete will never age

  1. The old covenant was inadequate because of its nature/law of works.
  2. The old covenant was inadequate because of its national/civil function and administration.
  3. The old covenant was faulty because its membership did not know God – had to be taught about God.
  4. The old covenant was faulty because once you sinned God could not make you right with that covenant.
  5. The old covenant was faulty because it was not designed to last forever.
The Place of Jesus Ministry

Hebrews chapter 9

9 Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary. 2A tabernacle was set up. In its first room were the lampstand and the table with its consecrated bread; this was called the Holy Place. 3Behind the second curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place, 4which had the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered Ark of the Covenant. This ark contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron’s staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant. 5Above the ark were the cherubim of the Glory, overshadowing the atonement cover. But we cannot discuss these things in detail now.

1 Kings 6 (NIV)

14So Solomon built the temple and completed it. 15He lined its interior walls with cedar boards, paneling them from the floor of the temple to the ceiling, and covered the floor of the temple with planks of juniper.16He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with cedar boards from floor to ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place. 17The main hall in front of this room was forty cubits[i] long. 18The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was cedar; no stone was to be seen. 19He prepared the inner sanctuary within the temple to set the ark of the covenant of the LORD there. 20The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty wide and twenty high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of cedar. 21Solomon covered the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold. 22So he overlaid the whole interior with gold. He also overlaid with gold the altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.

Leviticus 16

11“Aaron shall bring the bull for his own sin offering to make atonement for himself and his household, and he is to slaughter the bull for his own sin offering. 12He is to take a censer full of burning coals from the altar before the LORD and two handfuls of finely ground fragrant incense and take them behind the curtain. 13He is to put the incense on the fire before the LORD, and the smoke of the incense will conceal the atonement cover above the tablets of the covenant law, so that he will not die. 14He is to take some of the bull’s blood and with his finger sprinkle it on the front of the atonement cover; then he shall sprinkle some of it with his finger seven times before the atonement cover.

Hebrews 9 (NIV)

6 When everything had been arranged like this, the priests entered regularly into the outer room to carry on their ministry. • 7But only the high priest entered the inner room, and that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance. • 8The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still functioning. • 9This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper. • 10They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings—external regulations applying until the time of the new order

Matthew 27

45From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. 46About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[c] lema sabachthani?” (Which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[d] 47When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.” 48Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 49The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.” 50And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. 51At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split

Hebrews 9 (NIV)

10They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings—external regulations applying until the time of the new order 11But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here,he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation.

The Son’s Sacrifice is Superior to the O.T. Sacrifice

Hebrews chapter 9:12-10:18

Hebrews 9 (NIV)

11But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here,[a] he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. 12He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.
9This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper.

Hebrews 9 (NIV)

13The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! 15For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.

Hebrews 9

16In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it, 17because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living. (NIV) 16For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it. 17For a covenant is valid only when men are dead, for it is never in force while the one who made it lives. • (NASB)

Hebrews 9 (NASB)

18Therefore even the first covenant was not inaugurated without blood. • 19For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, he took the blood of the calves and the goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20saying, “THIS IS THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT WHICH GOD COMMANDED YOU.” 21And in the same way he sprinkled both the [v]tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry with the blood. 22And according to the [w]Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Matthew 26 (NASB)

27And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.

Hebrews 9

23Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
