GOD HAS SPOKEN

The connection between old & new covenant

Hbr 1:1-2 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by [His] Son

-The Old Testament is inspired by God
The connection between old & new covenant is important because It goes contrary to all latter-day revelation
-The Old Testament revelation Was given to the Jews but was written for us! Rom 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Written for us!

Why was the Old Testament given to the Jews and written for us?

1.To strengthen our faith.
2.General Revelation VS. Special Revelation
3.To give us vital concepts.
4.To identify the true Messiah.

WRITTEN FOR US!

1.To strengthen our faith.
2.General revelation VS. Special revelation
3.To give us vital concepts (man could not be saved by keeping the law).
4.To identify the true Messiah.
5.To identify the true word of God.

The Jews were God’s  vehicle so that we could identify the proper Scriptures. – All Scripture was either written by a Jew or overseen by a Jew or collected by a Jew

ALL SCRIPTURE WAS WRITTEN BY A JEW OR OVERSEEN BY A JEW OR COLLECTED BY A JEW!!
The connection between old & new covenant

Hbr 1:1-2 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by [His] Son

2 Chronicles 36 (NASB) 15The LORD, the God of their fathers, sent word to them again and again by His messengers, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place; 16but they continually mocked the messengers of God,despised His words and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, until there was no remedy.

15The LORD, the God of their fathers, sent word to them again and again by His messengers, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place; 16but they continually mocked the messengers of God,despised His words and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, until there was no remedy.

1 Peter 1

10Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care,11trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christin them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. 12It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven.Even angels long to look into these things.

Luke 24 (NASB)

25And He said to them,“O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?” 27Then beginningwithMoses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.

The Old Testament

Even angels long to look into these things.

3. Fragmentary – at best
ISAIAH 28:9-10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little

In various ways – diverse manners
