The Names and Titles of Jesus -The Good Shepherd, Spirit Filled PodcastThe Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus the Good Shepherd Episode 98

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the seventh in the series. The following is an outline.

THE NAMES AND TITLES OF JESUS

John 10

I Am the Good Shepherd
I Am the True Shepherd
I Am the Door

Understanding the Shepherd

His job was a dirty and dangerous one. Many times, all the shepherd had to fight off lions and other wild animals was a staff with a crook. He willingly put his life on the line for his flock. At night, he would put the flock in a makeshift pen that had only one way in and out. Day and night Communal pin in town He knew each one of his sheep—inspected them—he gave each one a name—He loved them like we love our pets—His sheep loved their shepherd They knew what he did for them and they knew his voice Abraham – Isaac – Jacob – Moses – David

David the Shepherd

Ps 78:70-72; He also chose David His servant And took him from the sheepfolds; 71From the care of the ewes with suckling lambs. He brought him To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His inheritance. 72So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart And guided them with his skillful hands.

The True Shepherd

God was The Shepherd that all other shepherds of God’s people represented
Ps 80: 1 Oh, give ear, Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who are enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth!
The Messiah would be the True Shepherd

Throughout the Old Testament, you have some promises of a shepherd yet to come

Matthew 2:6, which is a quote from Micah 5 in the Old Testament:  And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you [Bethlehem] shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel (v. 2).  And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall dwell secure, [Who shall dwell secure? The sheep] for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth

I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD

John 10:6 This figure of speech = not a Parable, a Parable is like something ie sower, hidden treasure etc.—Jesus is the door Jesus is The Good Shepherd. It is not just a figure of speech or a comparison, but a saying that is loaded with significance–the verbal equivalent of Jesus’ signs. This picture is not so much an allusion of Ezekiel 34 as a development from it.

Ezekiel 34:23-24 23“Then I will set over them one shepherd, My servant David, and he will feed them; he will feed them himself and be their shepherd. 24And I, the LORD, will be their God, and My servant David will be prince among them; I the LORD have spoken.

Context of John 10:

John chapters 9 and 10 belong  together The Pharisees self-appointed shepherds of God’s flock – were putting people out of the temple who believed in Jesus—plotted to kill Jesus – they tried to kill  him twice ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Woe, shepherds of Israel Ezk 34 Jer 32“Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of My pasture!” declares the LORD. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; All who came before Me are thieves and robbers a hired hand,…He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep.

John 10 10 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. 2But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. 3To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6This figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them. • 7So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10The thief comes enters through Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and [a]have it abundantly.

11“I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. 12He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, 15even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father, and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice, and they will become one flock with one shepherd. 17For this reason the Father loves Me because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. 18No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.”

I lay down My life for the sheep

But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our [i]well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging, we are healed. 6All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way, But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him. Isaiah 53

1 Peter 2:24-25 24and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. 25For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.

John 10 9A division occurred again among the Jews because of these words.20Many of them were saying, “He has a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to Him?” 21Others were saying, “These are not the sayings of one demon-possessed. A demon cannot open the eyes of the blind, can he?” 22At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; 23it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon. 24The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, “How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me.26But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. 27My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30I and the Father are one.”

31The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. 32Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?” 33The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.” 34Jesus answered them, “Has it not been written in your Law, ‘I SAID, YOU ARE GODS’? 35If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? 37If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may [f]know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.” 39Therefore they were seeking again to seize Him, and He eluded their grasp.

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus the Bread of Life

Jesus the Bread of LIfeThe Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus the Bread of Life Episode 97

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the sixth in the series. The following is an outline.

I AM ἐγώ εἰμι

Exodus 3:14
God’s name

“Give us this day our daily bread”

Jesus feeding the 5000
  1. A completely different Understanding of what bread
    2. The sign of the feeding of the 5000
    3. The background of the Jewish culture where God feed their ancestors with mana every day to sustain them
Jesus is the true Bread of God that gives life because

1.He is the true Mana from God

Context: 24when the people, therefore, saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they also got into boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. 25And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did You come here?”

John 6

26Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”
28Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”
29Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” 30Therefore they said to Him, “What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? 31Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”
32Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34“Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”
35Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Isaiah 55:1

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. 2Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. 3Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.

36But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe.
37All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me but raise them up at the last day.

Jesus is the true Bread of God that gives life because
  1. He is the true Mana from God
    2. He does the will of the Father

40For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
41At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”43“Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus answered. 44“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.
45It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God. ‘Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me. 46No one has seen the Father except for the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. 47Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. 48I am the bread of life.

Jesus is the true Bread of God that gives life because
  1. He is the true Manna from God
    2. He does the will of the Father
    3. He gave His life so we can have eternal life

49Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. 50But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. 51I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
52Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

Something must die for me to live

60On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”
61Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? 62Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. 64Yet there are some of you who do not believe.”

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus the Resurrection and Life

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus the Resurrection and Life – Episode 96

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the fifth in the series. The following is an outline.

The Black Death

In May of 1664-600

June of 1665 -6000

one month later it was 17,000

August alone, 31,000 died

By the time it was over about 70,000 people had died.

Ring around the roses, a pocket full of posies, Ashes, ashes, we all fall down

Death

Genesis 3:19
By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

Ecclesiastes 7:2
He says, …death is the destiny of every man
Romans 5:12 God used Paul to tell us, Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and so death…  [like an uncontainable plague] spread to all men, because all sinned…

We ALL FALL DOWN
We are all terminally ill

We can’t study death or observe it or try it out to see how it feels

Jesus had a lot to say about this enemy we all face. In fact, in His response to the death of his friend Lazarus, Jesus uttered another of His I am… statements…a statement that provides us with the answers the questions we all have when it comes to facing the inevitable end of our lives.

Perea, a two-day journey from Bethany – they just let Him know of Lazarus’ illness and assumed that He would come quickly

It took two days for the messenger to go from Bethany to Perea. Jesus tarried two more days in Perea after hearing of Lazarus’ illness. Two additional days were required for Him to reach Bethany. So the four days following the arrival of the messenger in Perea correspond to the four days Lazarus had lain in his tomb. That means as omniscient God in the flesh, Jesus knew His friend was already dead when He received the news from Bethany

Funerals

As many people as possible attended these events

The women mourners walked first

Deep mourning lasted for seven days during this week -it was forbidden to anoint oneself, to put on shoes, to engage in any kind of study or business and even to wash

Thirty additional days of lighter mourning when some of these restrictions were lifted

John 11

Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you (vv. 21–22)

Jesus [says] to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day” (vv. 23–24)

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die [looking at Lazarus who had just died] yet shall he live, and everyone who lives [Martha, Mary, your friends, everyone who lives] and believes in me shall never die” (vv. 25–26)

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him (John 3:36).

For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will . . . Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment but has passed from death to life.

Philippians 1:21-22

21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.22But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. 23But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;

To depart and be with Christ for that is very much better and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die

LET’S PARTY WE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE

18He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” 21At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. Luke 10

We ALL FALL DOWN

1 Corinthians 15

25For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live (vv. 21, 24–25)

For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. . .  Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment (vv. 26, 28–29)

Resurrection of mortal body

Romans 8:10-1

If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Philippians 3:20-21

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

55“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

1Cr 15:35-38

But someone will say, “How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come? “You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies; and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else. But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own

2 CORINTHIANS 4:16-17

Therefore, we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,

Romans 8:17-18

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus The Light of the World

The Names and Titles of Jesus - Jesus the Light of the World, Spirit Filled Podcast, Bible StudyThe Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus The Light
of the World – Episode 95

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the fourth in the series. The following is an outline.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it. 6There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light so that through him all might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15(John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. and[b] is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

Jesus THE LOGOS

HE IS THE REASON WHY FOR EVERYTHING

Colossians 1:16
For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him.

Jesus The Word = Logos

Light – Life – Truth

Jesus the Light of the World

1 John 1:5
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

Psalm 36:9
For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

1 Timothy 6:16
He alone is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light. No one has ever seen Him, nor can anyone see Him. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen

Nothing is a coincidence with God – everything he’s created can all be traced back to Jesus the

4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome

Throughout the Old Testament, we have this promise of a great light that comes into the world and would push back the darkness of the world.

Prophecies

Isaiah chapter 9
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone” (v. 2).

In Isaiah 49 God says in relation to Messiah, the Servant of the Lord, He said: “I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth” (v. 6).

Isaiah 60: Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord [Jehovah] will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you (vv. 1–2).

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the Only-begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus the light of the World

John 1:18
No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side [Jesus, the Logos/Word of God], he has made him known.

2 Corinthians 4:6
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” [that God who spoke in Genesis 1] has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God [how?] in the face of Jesus Christ [the Logos, the Word].

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, [d] dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing … His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

Philippians 2
15so that you will [i]prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you [j]appear as [k]lights in the world,

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE LIGHT ARE THE GLORY OF GOD

John chapter 1: 6-13

  • Jesus the light of the world and the glory of God
  • God is zealous for his glory
  • The heavens declare the glory of God
  • The sun is our light by day that warms, lightens and gives us life
  • The moon gives us a testimony of the light of the sun with its reflection
  • That brings me to John’s statement about John the Baptizer not being the light but a reflection of the glory of the true light Jesus Christ

John the Baptist

Matthew 11:11
Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist;…

  • John the Baptist The light and Glory
  • John contrasted to Jesus
  • Jesus was in the beginning with God – John was sent from God
  • Jesus was God – John was a man
  • Jesus was the light – John was a reflection of the light
  • Jesus was the fulfillment of the law and prophets –John terminated the prophets and law

God has called us not just to survive in this world, but to be light that pushes back the darkness

  • Jesus is the Light of the world
  • He’s the “Star come out of Jacob” that we read about in Numbers 24:17
  • He’s the sun of righteousness risen with healing in His wings in Malachi 4:2
  • He’s the One that John saw in Revelation 1:16 whose face was like the sun shining in full strength.
  • He’s the bright morning star we read about in Revelation 22:16.

The Lamb, the Light of the world

One day He will return. There will be one final great sunrise. And then there will be no more sunrises. We read in Revelation 21 about the new Jerusalem. This city “has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb [the Lamb, the Light of the world] and [the] gates [of that city] will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there” (vv. 21–23).

As I studied this lesson on Jesus is light and in that light His life studied light itself the sun for instance gives us son gives us life and it is pure energy of God never does anything by coincidence the word is not even in the Hebrew language and so the sun is shoo-in that gives us life is also unapproachable if we got close to it we would be destroyed and so it is with God Timothy said he lives in unapproachable light no man can approach God and live

Facts about Light

  • The human eye sees specific areas of the spectrum, but other animals and insects can actually see parts of the spectrum that we can’t.
  • Light travels in a vacuum at 300,000 km per second (186,000 miles per second).
  • Space does not have any light. We can see things in space due to light bouncing off of the objects in space.
  • Light is used by plants to convert the light into energy as their ‘food’. The process is called ‘photosynthesis’ and converts carbon dioxide through the energy of the light.

The Gospel – Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 94

The Gospel, spirit filled podcast, bible study This episode is for anyone interested in Christianity or wanting to hear the gospel. The following is an outline for the podcast.

The Gospel

Mark 16: 15 & 16

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Romans 1:16

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

What is the Gospel?

Gospel / GOOD NEWS

  1. What God has done through our Lord Jesus Christ.
  2. What God is doing through our Lord Jesus Christ.
  3. What God will do for us through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Outline of the Bible
  1. Man has made a terrible mess out of his life.
  2. God has done great things for us.
  3. Here’s how you can get in on it.

Sin Problem ~ Legal Problem

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God;

1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death. One Sin

1Cr 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; One Sting

God’s holiness

Ps. 130:3

It all comes back to our understanding of the character of God. If God is holy, and He measures my sin against His holiness, it would be impossible to even balance the scales. David said, “If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?”

Debt

James 2:10

For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in on point, he is guilty of all.

Isaiah 64:6

For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment;
And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away

For the wages of sin is death.
  1. Sin Problem
    2. Grave Problem
    3. Life Problem

John 1:1,14

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The Incarnation God became flesh: So what!

He was fathered by the Holy Spirit, his mother was a human being, therefore, his value was more than the entire human race.

The Cross

II Corinthians 5:21

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Sin Problem: Answered at the Cross

The Resurrection So What!

For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection

Grave Problem: Answered at the Resurrection

Romans 8:34

“Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” Romans 8:34

Our Great Problems:

  1. Sin Problem: Answered at the Cross
    2. Grave Problem: Answered at the Resurrection
    3. Life Problem: Answered at the Ascension
The Second Coming of Christ

How do I apply the gospel to myself?

Repent [change your mind]

Luke 13:3 I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

16Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience[k]resulting in righteousness?

BE BAPTIZED: WHY BAPTISM???

Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Be baptized

Rom 6:1-14 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

Rom 6:2God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Rom 6:3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

Rom 6:4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Rom 6:5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also [in the likeness] of [his] resurrection:

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus The Word/Logos, spirit filled podcast

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus The Word/Logos Episode 93

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the second in the series.

7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.

Exodus 33 :20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.“

1 Timothy 6:16 He alone is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light. No one has ever seen Him, nor can anyone see Him. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen. 18No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and[b] is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

Jesus the Word

  1. Pre-existent
  2. Co-existent
  3. Self-existent

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

1Co 1:24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God

Col 1:15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation

Heb 1:6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.

22“The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works,[c][d] before his deeds of old; 23I was formed long ages ago, at the very beginning, when the world came to be. 24When there were no watery depths, I was given birth, when there were no springs overflowing with water; 25before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, 26before he made the world or its fields or any of the dust of the earth. 27I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, 28when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, 29when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. 30 Then I was constantly[e] at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, 31rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. 32“Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. 33Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it. 34Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. 35For those who find me find life and receive favor from the LORD. 36But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death.”

Predetermined Counsel of God.

Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world,

1Pe 1:19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake

7No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began

The Wisdom of God

7No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

The Word = Logos is the name of Jesus Reason Why

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The Jews understood that the Logos, the Word of God, was God revealing Himself, God creating, God acting, God alive in His creation

Targum Aramaic translation of the Hebrew Bible. (Yahweh)
Aramaic term that means “the word.” It’s the word memra.

Greek Septuagint memra “the word.” translation logos in Greek for example, in Genesis 15: “After this, the word [logos] of the Lord came to Abram in a vision.” Psalm 33, verse 6: “By the word [by the logos] of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.”

Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.”

-The apostle John is the only New Testament author to call Jesus “the Word.” He does so in the Gospel of John, and in his first Epistle of John, and also, as we’ll see, in the book of Revelation.

-When he talks about the “Word,” that’s the Greek word logos. So when you see the “Word,” that’s the logos.

John said 4 things about the Word Logos
  1. His Eternity
    2. His Personality
    3. His Deity
    4. His Humanity

2 Problems
  1. Too high a view of John
    2. Too low a view of Jesus

More divine than human?
More human than divine?
Partly human, partly divine?
Fully human, fully divine!

The Incarnation of the Word of Life

1 John 1 (NIV)
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

THE WORD

I AM  (Yahweh) = LORD = “the word.” It’s the word memra= logos in Greek
Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, John infused this word with a richer, fuller meaning– not an impersonal force but a person, God made flesh.
Jesus was God’s mirror, God’s way of making Himself known to His creation. The definition of a word
John 1:18,No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side [Jesus, the Logos/Word of God], he has made him known.
2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” [that God who spoke in Genesis 1] has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God [how?] in the face of Jesus Christ [the Logos, the Word].

Believe

The Names and Titles of Jesus – The Name Above Every Name Jesus

The Names and Titles of Jesus – The Name Above Every Name Jesus, Spirit Filled Podcast, Bible StudyThe Names and Titles of Jesus – The Name Above Every Name Jesus – Episode  92

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the second in the series. The following is an outline.

Philippians 2
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! 9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

THE GREAT I AM

The name of GOD YHVH

Exodus 3;15 “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM”: and he said, “Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.”
YHVH YHVH LORD = YHVH (Adonai) Lord = Master (Adonai)
GOD= YHVH God= (Elohim) EL = short
Jehovah = YHVH
Yahweh = YHVH
YAH = YHVH
Exd 20:7 “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold [him] guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Yahushua ַ הוֹשׁוּﬠ ְ•1 The first element is YAH, which is the commonly accepted abbreviated form of YHVH

2 The interesting word group that starts with YAH then the Hebrew verb (shua), meaning to be saved or delivered.

Yahshua is the name Joshua is a compilation of two elements.

Isa 12:2 Behold, God [is] my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For YAH, the LORD, [is] my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’ “ Yahushua ַ הוֹשׁוּﬠ ְ =י I AM the I AM that saves

Numbers 13:7 These are the names of the men Moses sent to explore the land. (Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.)

Yahushua יְהוֹשׁוּעַ = I AM the I AM that saves

Zech 6:11

Matthew 22:31-32

The name that you give to your child may not determine his or her destiny, but the name that was given to our Lord was a part of his destiny.
Jesus. That name reveals us why He came to this earth. It sums up His mission, His purpose, His destiny.

Jehovah saves. Jehovah is salvation

We cannot save ourselves. We need a Rescuer. We need a Deliverer. We need a Savior. That’s why the angel said, “You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins” (Matt. 1:21). Jehovah saves. Jehovah is salvation.

How did Jesus save us from our sin?
“Jesus,” that common name from the Hebrew “Joshua”—“Jehovah saves.”

But now, here is Jesus hanging on cross, dying as a common criminal. This is why people said, “If He truly saves, let Him save Himself.”

Joshua, Yahushua Jesus

1. Jesus is God revealing God in our humanity

2. Jesus is is our covenant God

3. Jesus is God revealing our destiny

Luke 24:26 remission of sins is preached in his name
John 20:31 that you might have life in his name
Romans 10: 9 whosoever called upon his name
Acts 4 by what power you heal this man by the name of Jesus
Acts 9:27 we preach boldly in his name
Matthew 28 :18 by his authority make disciples – We are baptized into the name

It all comes back to the name the final revelation of God in Jesus Christ our Joshua – Yahshua

Welcome to Mount Zion – Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 90

Welcome to Mount Zion, Spirit Filled PodcastThis is the 23rd and last class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas.

The following is the outline of the class.

Welcome to Mount Zion

Preservation of the saints

Hebrews chapter 10:19-12:29

  • True faith will enable us to run the race of life. Hebrews chapter 12:1-4
  • True faith understands God’s discipline is not contrary to God’s love Hebrews chapter 12:5-14
  • True faith understands the imperative to live holy Hebrews chapter 12:14-17
  • True faith chooses the right mountain Hebrews chapter 12:18-28

18You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; 19to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, 20because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.” 21The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”

Hebrews 12

22But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Hebrews 12

25See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? 26At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”27The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. 28Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29for our “God is a consuming fire.”

Concluding Exhortations and Application

Hebrews chapter 13

Outline Hebrews 13:1-6

Application – be loving

  1. Be loving to the brethren – verse 1
  2. Be loving to those who are strangers – verse 2
  3. Be loving to those who are persecuted – verse 3
  4. Be loving to your companions – verse 4
  5. Be loving in a positive and negative way – verses 5-6

Hebrews 13

13 Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. 3Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. 4Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 5Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 6So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” 7Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. 9Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by eating ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who do so. 10 We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat. 11The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. 12And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. 13Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. 14For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. 15Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. 16And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. 17 Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.

Benediction and Final Greetings

18 Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. 19 I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon.

20Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 22Brothers and sisters, I urge you to bear with my word of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you quite briefly. 23I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with him to see you. 24Greet all your leaders and all the Lord’s people. Those from Italy send you their greetings. 25Grace be with you all.

1Cr 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

1Cr 6:10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

1Cr 6:11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

2Cr 11:2 For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin •

Born again with a new identity

2Cr 5:17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Col 3:3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

1Jo 4:17…because as he is, so are we in this world.

Eph 2:6and raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in the heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus

3.Good news because it gives us a perfect High Priest.

Hebrews 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him

Perfect Mediator

Gal 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. One Mediator Gal 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Hbr2:17 For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.

Hbr2:18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Hebrews 4 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

The Incarnation God became flesh: good news!

The Response of Faith – Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 88

The Response of Faith, Spirit Filled PodcastThis is the 22nd class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas.

The following is the outline of the class.

The Response of Faith

Preservation of the saints

Hebrews chapter 10:19-12:29

Hebrews 11

39And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, 40because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect.

Faith will enable us to run the race of life.

Hebrews chapter 12:1-4

Hebrews 12

1.Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
4. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

Faith understands God’s discipline is not contrary to God’s love

Hebrews chapter 12:5-14

Hebrews 12

5And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, 6because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” 7Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.

Hebrews 12

9Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! 10They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. 12Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. 13“Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.

Faith understands the Imperative to live holy

Hebrews chapter 12:14-17

Hebrews 12

14Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness, no one will see the Lord. 15See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. 17Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done.
